The English breakfast is an institution almost as big as the Queen: the British love him madly and tourists stay surrendered to his energetic strength! Even if you don't believe that the English take it every morning.

It has its origin in the Middle Ages, when poverty and hard work in the fields was the norm. The workers then put in a very abundant breakfast and thus skipped the food. Today it is used more on special occasions, on holidays or on weekends (although there is some English who never renounces his English breakfast).

That carries? Toasted bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms. Sometimes it also has hash brown, which we like so much! It usually also includes coffee or milk.

There are several places that serve it throughout the day: you just have to look for the words “english breakfast all day”.

The most famous dish of English cuisine is not really English: it has Spanish roots! It is in Spain where we came to fry fish for the first time ... even if you don't tell Londoners, it would be like telling a Neapolitan that pizza was born in Valencia!

The British fish & chips are very tasty: the fish fillets are coated in flour and beer and fried. They are accompanied by fried potatoes or mashed peas and sauces. There are several types of fish, you can usually choose between cod (hake), haddock (similar to hake but more fatty), plaice (alone) or skateboard (stripe).

One of our favorites, and that is that on our first trip to London, many, many years ago, it was our first meal. Without expecting much from English cuisine, we were quite surprised and this is usually our choice when we return. It is a plate with sausages (bangers) and mashed potatoes (mashed potatoes), which is usually accompanied with gravy sauce, a sauce made with vegetable and meat broth, and with some vegetables such as peas.

Curiosity: in the past some sausages of such poor quality were used that they literally exploded when cooked, hence this dish began to be colloquially called “banger”, which refers to a type of very loud firecracker.

The Sunday roast is a good reason to stay in London until (at least) a Monday! It is a delicious dish of roasted meat (chicken, lamb, pork or veal) with roasted potatoes and / or mashed potatoes and vegetables. It also carries a "Yorkshire pudding" a kind of flour, eggs and milk cupcake, similar to an empty vol-au-vent. All accompanied by "gravy" a very sweet sauce. Good news for vegetarians: there is a "green" version of the dish made with cheese and nuts!

No. The cook is not going to serve you some broth brushes: the feet are some cakes that can remind you of the empanadillas (we have said you can ...), although the pasta is more consistent, as well as the filling. There are chicken with mushrooms, beef with beer, beef and kidneys, cheese and onion, etc. They can come with potatoes, vegetables and gravy sauce. It is one of the most interesting dishes if what you want is something quick to take with you, improvise a picnic, eat on the street ... An ideal solution if you do not know what to eat in London.

A heat pump that is worth being enjoyed, without regret, at least once. It is a meatloaf made by a layer of minced lamb, carrots and peas and covered with mashed potatoes and cheese in some cases. There are many versions of this recipe, with different types of meat, also with fish (fisherman's pie) or even vegetarians. If you find it in an English restaurant and you need an energy kick, don't even think about it!

It is the English version of the typical stuffed potato found in each village fair in Spain. A simple but very rich dish that basically consists of a roasted potato that opens in two and is filled with butter and chosen ingredients (it can be cheese and beans, tuna and mayonnaise, minced meat, and much more!). For us, one of the most interesting and tasty English street food (and why not, healthy).

It is a whole beef tenderloin steak cooked in a puff pastry roll. Normally, the pate meat and a vegetable hash with onions and mushrooms are also spread. It is not found in all restaurants but if you see it on the menu ask for it: it is very good! For us an excellent dish if you doubt what to eat in London.

More than a consistent meal, like all of the above, this recipe would be like an English appetizer, which has its fans and its detractors (even inside Backpacking the World). It is a cold dish, which has local cheese (possibly cheddar, which can be spicy), pickles or pickled chives, some sausage, a piece of bread and butter. It may not be the perfect remedy for your ravenous hunger, but if you're at a bar taking a pint, it's an excellent option to snack something.

You can't leave London without drinking the traditional five o'clock tea! In this ritual tea is served, usually with milk or lemon, and is accompanied with cupcakes, cakes or cookies. The most beloved desserts are carrot cake, Victoria sponge cake with strawberry jam, and cupcake, although salt options are not lacking. Most bars offer it, but it is best to go to one of the many teahouses and feel like a real Londoner!

These are the 10 typical dishes of English cuisine, but the options to taste hamburgers they are not missing (possibly the best of your life if you escape from Mc Donalds & co!). In addition, as we said in the introduction, London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, so the offer of ethnic cuisine It is immense and requetebuena: if you get tired of British dishes you can try Indian, Japanese, Thai, Caribbean delicacies among others.
