This year we were lucky to be able to tour Australia for 3 months and it became one of the best trips of our life. So exciting and so full of surprises that it left us wanting more! So yes, sooner or later we will return to continue exploring this immense country. Throughout this time we went through a lot of amazing places, and many others that we could not visit. If you are planning a great trip to the land Down Under, today we will tell you what are the 20 best things to see and do in Australia:

1. Rent a car (or better yet rent a van) and go to explore the great ocean road, one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world. Koalas await you in freedom, strange rock formations, endless coastline and a few more surprises. Our roadtrip on the Great Ocean Road, Y Tips for touring the Great Ocean Road.

2. Finally we did not go to Uluru, but you don't have to be a guru (I made rhyme!) to know that this sacred site for Aboriginal people is one of the things that everyone (ahem) should see on our trip to Australia. We will be back. Insurance.

3. Our gateway to the country was Perth and Fremantle, and that's why we have some love for him. It is true that Perth does not have as much offer as Sydney or Melbourne, but it is a very pleasant city, with beautiful surroundings. Fremantle for example is very worthwhile: here you can sleep, as we did, in one of the oldest prisons in Australia and ...

4.… Take a ferry to explore one of the places that made us most in love with Australia: Rottnest island, the island of quokkas. And it has some beach that flipas, huh. Look how it went on Rottnest Island.

5. And speaking of beaches, the one we liked most about our entire trip to Australia was without a doubt Lucky bay. And not only for having turquoise waters and very white sand, but because of it, super-handsome kangaroos roam freely. This was the night at the Lucky Bay campsite.

6. If you are a beachman, you also have to visit without excuse Hyams Beach, which always appears in the listings of the most beautiful beaches in the world. And yes, it is beautiful for a while, with its famous fine sand and an almost radioactive white (although it has too many houses attached to it, and of course ... it takes away some charm). This is how we visit it in our roadtrip.

7. We finished our trip through Australia in Sydney, and it turned out to be the perfect final climax. We thought it was spectacular, a place that meets everything that can be asked of an ideal city: neighborhoods full of personality, wild beaches, wide gastronomic offer and a lot of atmosphere. A trip to Australia without going through Sydney would be incomplete. See everything you can see and do in Sydney.

8. Although at this point we have a divided heart, and we do not even agree. Why Melbourne It is the other city that made us consider leaving everything and moving a long season around here. This is how things are: Rober is more of Melbourne and Lety more of Sydney. But we agree on something: we loved the Fitzroy neighborhood, although Melbourne is much more. Here we tell you everything to see and do in Melbourne.

9. With Byron bay Something strange happened to us: we came to believe that we were going to look like a place too modernillo-hippy-tourist, and we loved it. It has something special, almost magnetic, that makes you want to stay longer than planned. The best thing to do in Byron Bay.

10. Where we did go with high expectations (which were not frustrated at all) was Tasmania. This islet-state knew us to hook from the beginning with its waterfalls, with its Bay of Fire and with its wild nature. If you have the opportunity to go, do not miss it. Of course, we recommend you spend at least 7 days there. Here you can see our roadtrip in Tasmania.

11. The roadtrip we did for the Nullarbor It was one of the best experiences of the trip. They are hundreds and hundreds of kilometers where you feel lost in the middle of nowhere. That said it seems that it has no appeal, but nothing is further from reality: we could enjoy immense and vertiginous cliffs (the Bunda Cliffs are a must), fire sunsets, ghost towns and we even saw wild dingos. Yes, sometimes getting lost is cool! Here we tell you our passage through the Nullarbor.

12. The Blue Mountains National Park, near Sydney, is a perfect getaway from the city, or an almost obligatory step on any roadtrip along the east coast of Australia. There are many trails and viewpoints that will leave you with your mouth open. More information about the Blue Mountains.

13. Another city that we advise you to visit is Adelaide. It has quite charm and a lot of nightlife, although we especially liked its Chinatown, you know how we are with Asia. If you are one of those who like to taste the local wine, in its surroundings you will find the best wineries in Australia. We also recommend exploring nearby (in Australian distances, of course) Eyre Peninsula, which has a few very handsome corners. This is what you can't miss out on Adelaide. And our van ride through the Eyre Peninsula.

14. Spend a few days in the Daintree Forest, to the north of the east coast, in a wooden hut in the jungle, surrounded by spiders and near rivers where the terrible Australian crocodiles live was at the same time welcoming and exciting. If you like aventurillas ... you have to go. And don't hesitate to take a boat trip on the Daintree River to see the dreaded crocodiles up close. This was our experience.

15. One of the most amazing sections of the road trip was the one that goes from Perth to Esperance, which runs through the entire southwest coast of the country, where we find for ourselves the best wild beaches we saw on our trip. If we had to keep two sites, it would be the Green Pools with the Elephant Cove, and the Ocean beach road, two places that truly overwhelm. In this post we tell you our step.

16. If on your trip along the east coast of Australia you need a few days of relaxation, we have the perfect plan: Magnetic Island. Koalas in freedom, beautiful and wild beaches to access after the occasional trekking, nights of talks in front of a beer and a pizza and very cool landscapes. Magnetic Island Travel Guide.

17. The animals of Australia are one of their greatest wonders. With any luck you will soon see kangaroos in freedom jumping on the sides of the road (well, it took us 5 days!), but if you want to visit an absolutely wonderful site write this name: Moone Beach Natural Reserve. We enjoyed here one of the best sunsets of the trip, and we didn't do it alone, but we were accompanied by dozens and dozens of kangaroos (two of them fought haha). This was the concrete moment of our roadtrip.

18. As for the other animal symbol of Australia, the Koala, we have to tell you that it is somewhat more complicated to see them released, but they look, eh. We were able to enjoy them in southern Australia, on the Great Ocean Road and in areas of the west coast. If you can't see them, a recommended place to do so is the Koala hospital of Port Macquarie, where these animals come rescued and treated. The visit is free but leave a tip, they do a great job. Here you can see more info.

19. Although Australia had two gifts reserved for us: the first to see a mother swim Dolphin with his baby in the whyalla harbor, a few meters from us. The other and if it is more special, was to meet two cassowaries in Etty Bay, and although we have no photos, we keep them in our memory as if it were our most precious memory.

20. One of the experiences we will never forget is fly over the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands. There are several ways to do it, both by boat and by plane, although we definitely recommend the latter. In this post we give you more details on how to do it.

20+1. Returns. It is impossible to see all that Australia has to offer in a single trip!

These are 20 ideas of the best things to see and do in Australia. The list could be infinite, because it is a country that has a lot to offer the traveler, so we hope you explore it yourself and make your own suggestions of the best of Australia!
