On our trip to Athens we found virtually no places to eat a fixed price menu with several dishes. A shame. That is the bad news, the good news is that the gastronomic offer of Athens is quite wide and cheap ... yuppi! In this post we will recommend 8 places and restaurants to eat cheaply in Athens.

SAVVAS RESTAURANT

The last day, after receiving very good news, we decided to come and celebrate it here. We ate a dish of falafel with hummus, baba ganoush, sauces, salad and Turkish bread, plus a moussaka and fried cheese. The food is very tasty but it is not the best, the panoramic views of the Acropolis from the rooftop terrace are wonderful. Another big point in favor is that water is almost free! In total we pay about € 10 per person.

FAILURES

Without exaggeration ... here we ate the best falafel of life haha. Really, stop by and you will not regret J There are two sizes: pocket (€ 2.8) and giant (€ 3.8). Me, I'm a soda, I ordered falafel with nothing (only with yogurt sauce) since I don't like the salad at all ... but I missed the roasted eggplants and a red sauce the sea of rich (thanks Rober for letting me taste) so no be a sosainer like me: warned you are!

QUICK PITTA

We went to eat here on our first visit and came back on the second ... with the same feeling: it's a cheap place, the food is fine and the owner is crazy XD

We had grilled feta cheese (it was a little spicy), squid skewer, Greek salad and a couple of gyros. So, crazy (we had plenty of gyros and we ate breakfast the next day XD) but there is a mixed meat dish that costs about € 16 and can be shared between 2 ... we think it is a very good option. Puntazo: it is central, has a nice terrace and for € 10 you eat until bursting.

WE AITAT

We arrived here after following a reader's recommendation and it was a success J We ordered keftas (spiced meatballs), zucchini croquettes, halloumi cheese and one of the dishes of the day: grilled sardines. Everything was delicious (Rober didn't like croquettes too much) and we paid € 21. Detail: when paying you offer dessert (baklava). Highly recommended. The only bad thing is that it is not central, but if you approach you can visit the neighborhood of Exarchia that we found quite interesting and authentic.

BAITAKTARIS

If there is something that is not missing in Athens, there are little bars and restaurants that prepare gyros (what we call kebabs). One of the most famous is that of Bairaktaris (in Monastiraki Square) which they say prepares the best gyro in all of Athens. If you want to get out of the tourist, we advise you to take a walk around the city market, there are some local little bars that prepare delicious homemade food at good prices and in a family atmosphere (we spend about € 3 per person with drink) . Around here there are also many coffee shops where you can try a Turkish coffee.

MILLER FOOD HOUSE

The site is one of those good, beautiful and cheap: cheesburguer for € 2.50 and if you include potatoes and drink it costs € 5 (and the hamburger is super rich). In addition, you pay for a drink and you can fill it as many times as you want, if you go as a couple you already know that a glass is enough! In the same place there is also a bakery / pastry shop so if you want dessert ... take advantage 😉

LOUKOUMADES AIGAION

The perfect place if you want to snack on something sweet: in this place they prepare, since 1926, some loukoumades of death. What are loukoumades? Some buñuelitos dipped in honey and cinnamon sauce or chocolate. The ration of 6 costs € 3.5

ARISTON

It is rather a bakery where they prepare the best salty cakes in all of Greece and it is well worth approaching to discover if their fame is justified. Prices are around € 2, we recommend the spinach and cheese pie: it never fails.

  • Where: Voulis 10

Extra tip: AthenStyle Hostel

We went here because the same boy (sorry that I do not name you but I can not find your message and my memory, ufff) that blew us about Aitatamos, told us that from 18 to 19h there is a very happy happy hour: 2 × 1 in beers. Although the best part is that the bar is on the rooftop of the hostel with stunning views of the acropolis. Of course, beer is not very cheap: € 4 (but hey ... 2 per head is not bad XD).

So far our tips for eating well and cheaply in Athens although we can not stop advising you two more things:

THE BEST AREA TO DINNER / TAKE SOMETHING AT SUNSET

If what you want is to enjoy an area full of atmosphere and so beautiful that it looks like the scenario of a painting we advise you to approach the curious neighborhood of Anaphyiotika and have dinner at one of their taverns. If you want something less touristy, the neighborhood 'Psiri'(right next to Monastiraki) is perfect: full of coffee shops, breweries and places to eat something cheap.

THE BEST SWEET STOP

We were staying right next to this cafe but we could never stop for a drink since it was always full. There must be a reason! Flipping through the tables we saw that almost everyone asked for the same thing, some chocolate balls with chocolate sauce and kaimaki ice cream (the famous Greek ice cream that they claim to be requetebueno). What we have regretted not queuing up! It is located on Pl. Iroon 1. We do not know how much it costs (although it did not look super cheap). Send us a photo if you go 🙂

So far our recommendations of restaurants where to eat in Athens cheap (and well, of course!). Do you know more advisable sites?
