Day 4: MUNICH - BARCELONA

Monday, November 19, 2012

Today should be one of those days that we wake up with a long face and sad eyes as it usually happens when it is our last day of travel. But no, today we have not got up like this and it sure has been why our flight does not leave until 9 at night and that means that we are convinced that we have one more day to travel Bavaria and we still have many things What to see in Munich.
We go down to the breakfast room, we take our bags and after checking out at the Hotel Eder, the first thing we do is go for the car, today the parking is no longer free and after getting settled, we set off towards a Destination, not too common in the trips to Munich, but that has us makes us especially excited: we will spend the beginning of the morning in the English Garden.

We found a blue area very close to one of the park entrances and after seeing the price we didn't even think about it for a minute. They are 20 cents every 12 minutes, so to be calm we put 2 euros and we already know that with that we have a good time to walk around English Garden even if it is cold that peels.
Upon entering we stand before one of the cartels that show a map of the park and hear, not far away, a murmur of water ... and suddenly we remember! Surfing in Munich!!
A good option to know the history of the city is to book this guided tour in Spanish for the most interesting places in the city or this Free tour of Munich Free!, Considered one of the best free tours in Munich.

Surf in the English Garden. What to see in Munich

Surf with freezing temperatures in the English Garden !!

We see that the cold continues to accompany us in Munich, so we go for a walk, which is really what we came here for.
Guiding us through the maps that we find every bit, we follow the roads that lead us to Monopteros and the Chinese Tower.
Along the way we find true color postcards that we cannot avoid photographing.

We find the frozen stream that crosses the park and we take the picture of rigor.

After a few more minutes walking, we face what we were looking for, the Chinese Tower.
The truth is that we don't know why, but we expected something more spectacular. Nor is it that we had high expectations, but seeing her there, "alone", with a wooden beach bar next door ... did not quite convince us.

From here we continue looking for Monopteros and once we find it, we see that something that has been constant in our trips this year is coming to meet us: the fog !!!

So we get back on our feet and we will pick up the rental car in Bavaria, to approach the Kognisplace of Munich where after paying 20 cents to stop 12 minutes, we take a few pictures, rigor and get back on track. This time to our favorite site of Munich, the Marienplatz.

Kognisplace in Munich

Once we are in the center, when parking we see that prices are much more expensive and that for 2 euros, we can only be 40 minutes, and counting that it is the maximum amount we can put, we will not be returning every 40 minutes so we take advantage that we are almost in front of Viktualienmarkt to know this gastronomic center of which yesterday we could only see the “skeleton” for being all closed.
Upon arrival we begin to wake up the sense of sight and smell and we begin to have to stop for wanting to buy everything.

Gastronomic pleasures in Viktualienmarkt. What to see in Munich

Viktualienmarkt in Munich

The area where it is located is quite large and sure that if we had come in a time with less cold, we would have taken the opportunity to eat something in the stalls there.

I buy or not buy? Viktualienmarkt

One of the many shop windows that caught our attention. Viktualienmarkt

When we arrive at the cheese stalls, we have already surrendered to temptation and we start looking for something to buy. We can not take too many things because of the weight of the handbags, which we have already exceeded, but something sure falls 🙂

A little paradise… Viktualienmarkt

We already carry a bag !!! Viktualienmarkt

Before returning to the car, we took advantage of a drink in a coffee shop Munich and rest, that today, at this time we have a good walk and a long day awaits us.

The omnipresent showcase of all our trips this year 🙂

We go back for the car and we go to the hotel area of MunichWe know that we can find parking and we are surprised that the prices are the same, but here we can put a maximum of 5 euros to stay 2 hours. So we do that and we return to the Marienplatz area with the idea of buying some souvenir and strolling with the tranquility of having all day ahead.

What to see in Munich

When we reach the height of the Church of San Pedro Roger decides that he wants to go up to the viewpoint of the tower, although the day is quite covered and while I take the opportunity to go around the surroundings and continue doing some shopping.

The city from a bird's eye view ... Munich

When Roger finishes, we look at the clock and see that we still have 30 minutes of parking, so we continue walking through the center, so engrossed with so much showcase and with so much assembly of Christmas stalls.

Christmas arrived in Munich

As usually happens in these things, time flies by and we have to go back to the car to put 5 euros more almost running, because we have spent time.
The truth is that we have not seen anyone reviewing these areas, but we do not want to take a chance 🙂
Once calm, we return to the center again, but this time already with the fixed idea of stopping to eat.
It's already 2 in the afternoon and our stomach is already claiming us.
We stop at the Augustiner where for 28 euros we eat 2 plates of bratswurst a small beer and a cocacola.

Eating in Augustiner

The atmosphere is more relaxed and less touristy, maybe we could say until more posh, but in our opinion and with our experience, we liked the one we ate yesterday at the Hofbraühaus.

Interior of the Augustiner. What to see in Munich

When we go out to eat it is already 4 in the afternoon and we need to have a coffee to charge batteries, so we go to a Starbucks that is very close and there we are until 5 that we decide that it is time to say goodbye to the city and leave towards the airport, passing by the Alianz Arena that is passing us by.
What we didn't have is with the caravan that we were going to meet at the exit of Munich.
We put the GPS several times to find an alternative route, but there is none, so we have to hold the caravan and pass the drink.
In the end we are almost 2 hours until we reach the Alianz Arena and take the photo of rigor.

Alianz Arena in Munich

After this we only have to put gas, to leave the rental car in Bavaria with a full tank, return it and spend the time we have left in front of the boarding gate, with all kinds of free coffee / tea.
This is a good airport and the rest is nonsense! The only thing missing is free Wi-Fi and it would be our Top Ten at airports.

While we take off we think about our trips this year, we think of all the traveler dreams that we have fulfilled but above all we think about the last one we have left to live and that will begin in a month ...

We will be back ... Munich
