Gastronomic Days of Bierzo 2013

Fall it's a precious time for visit the region of Bierzo, in León, as I did last year, when I went to discover the amazing place of Las Médulas.

But also at this time you have another good argument to make a break to that region, gastronomic days held until December 9, where you can taste the products of the area and its most famous dishes.

In the Gastronomic Days of Bierzo 2013 participate 34 restaurants of the region, nine more than last year's edition.

During these dates, the participating restaurants offer very varied menus for the day, with prices between 20 and 30 euros, with dishes made with Bierzo food products with quality record, such as the Reineta apple, the Bierzo botillo, roasted peppers, the Conference pear or chestnuts.

But in addition to the aforementioned products, other foods from the area are incorporated into the menus, such as beef jerky, goat cheese, cherries, mushrooms, vegetables, etc ...

As an example of a menu, I tell you the one that offers the restaurant of the rural hotel Villa Mencía, in Corullón, where last year I was able to taste its gastronomic offer for these days, specially prepared by my friend Mariano.

On this occasion, among the first courses you can choose a fajita de botillo on cabbage of Corullón; a berciano ratatouille of peppers with poached egg; or a cecina toast with goat cheese and caramelized onion.

For the second you have pickled San Fiz trout; Baked pork tenderloin with mencía sauce, puree of reinetas and forest mushrooms; few páramo pints with quail; or old-fashioned pig trotters with straw potatoes.

In desserts you can also taste the products of Bierzo. That is the case of the pancakes stuffed with conference pear compote, or the flan of candied chestnuts. If you prefer, you have a fresh fruit skewer with mango sauce, or grandma's cake.

All washed down with white godello and red wines mencía D.O. El Bierzo, and with coffee and pomace, for 25 euros.
