The capital of Japan, where we spent almost two months traveling and working, has simply enamored us. It is difficult not to fall for their many charms, as we already told you here. Overdose of neons, neighborhoods full of personality, high levels of freak and, even so, space for traditional and spiritual corners: the old Edo is a box of surprises.

Do you have little time available? We tell you what are the places to visit in Tokyo essential

1. DISCOVER THE MOST TRADITIONAL TOKYO IN ASAKUSA

Getting lost in the district of Asakusa, one of the best preserved and most beautiful in Tokyo, is undoubtedly our most essential must. Here the main attraction is the Senso-ji temple, with its enoooorme paper lantern always surrounded by pilgrims and curious. But Asakusa lives not only from his temple: here you can walk along the Sumida river, admire the skyline from the terrace of the tourism department building (2-18-9 Kaminarimon, Taito, Tokyo), with the imposing Skytree, the tallest building in Tokyo.
You can also get lost for their izakayas Y traditional little restaurantsIn fact, this is where we ate some of the best tendons (tempura and rice). Come on ... Asakusa will make you fall in love.

2. MAKE SOME FRIKADA IN AKIHABARA

Tokyo is the geek capital in the world, you can't leave without having done any of its geeks: from eating in ninja restaurants, going to pamper a kitten in somecat-coffee, go have a hot drink in a maid-coffee from Akihabara Or, without leaving this neighborhood, get lost in the hundreds of little merchandising stores of your favorite anime.

3. KNOW THE COSPLAY WORLD IN HARAJUKU

In case you don't know cosplayers they are those who disguise themselves as their favorite video game, anime and manga characters. Some time ago the mecca where they met was, without a doubt, Harajuku. Today it seems that fashion has moved to the Odaiba area Although hey, it's always worth going around Harajuku: its Takeshita-dori alley, Meiji Jingū temple and Yoyogi park are some of its main attractions. And although it is true that it is difficult to spot a cosplayer, we will always have Sundays with their rockabillies!

4. PASS BY SHINJUKU, THE CITY OF THE NEONES

If you want neons, signs, chaos and much-much-so much life go to spend the night at Shinjuku: here you can run into Godzilla himself, have a drink in a mini-restaurant on Golden-Gai Street or dare to discover the red light district of Tokyo, Kabukicho (if you are more than a dancer we recommend the Rappongi area, full of fashion club !).

5. ENJOY THE BEST VIEWS FOR FREE!

Good news: the best views of Tokyo are free! They are obtained by climbing to the towers of Metropolitan Government Building, in the Shinjuku neighborhood. At sunset they are absolutely wonderful and if you are lucky ... you can see even the silhouette of Mount Fuji.

Where? 2-8-1 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku, Tokyo 163-8001Hours: 08.00-18.45h

6. FALL IN LOVE OF JAPANESE GASTRONOMY

Japanese cuisine is one of the healthiest and richest in the world and obviously, in Japan, you can't stop cramming your specialties. One of the gastronomic experiences that we advise you most is to eat in a kaiten sushi: here the sushi plates are placed in trays that pass through a conveyor belt, each plate has a color that corresponds to the price. They are usually cheap (there are many chains with sushi at 100 ¥) and very rich.

7. PASS THROUGH THE SHIBUYA CROSSING

Shibuya is the busiest crosswalk in the world, and for this reason it is worth coming to see it. If we also add that here the statue of Haciko, the most famous puppy in the world, and the possibility of shopping in the Shibuya 109... well, another place to visit in Tokyo is essential.

8. DISCOVER ODAIBA, THE ARTIFICIAL ISLAND OF TOKYO

The Odaiba area is one of the ones that surprised us most in Tokyo: here you can walk and run into the very statue of liberty, take a selfie with a real-size Gundam, shop in some of its largest shopping centers in Tokyo , enter the Mega Web for free, a very interesting exhibition of cars owned by Toyota, swim in its artificial beach and see the best sunset in Tokyo. Although the best thing about Odaiba is to leave it: we advise you to walk by Rainbow bridge at night, a memorable experience and unbeatable views.

9. DO SOMETHING VERY JAPANESE

How to go to a karaoke and show that you are worth it (or not, but that they take you away, I sing it), attend some sumo training (if you visit Tokyo in January, May or September you can even attend a competition), do a Japanese cooking course or take some pictures with the purikura, the Japanese photo booth that will undoubtedly take out the supermodel you have inside.

10. BACK

We were in Tokyo for a whole month and we could only see the little head of how much this city hides: apart from the tourist attractions there are an infinite number of things to see in Tokyo. It is a city that hooks and will cost you to leave, even when you have been traveling for almost two years and your next destination is your home 🙂
