One of the best options for eat cheap in Japan is to take advantage of the large number of fast food that exist in the country of the rising sun. Even if you don't worry: you won't have to spend your days between a McDonalds and a KFC!

There are many fast food where you eat really well. We have prepared this guide with the cheapest (and best) restaurants / fast food in Japan to help you save some euros - but without having to eat badly - hopefully you like it

GYUDON SHOP

Gyudon is a bowl of rice with slices of veal, onion and soy sauce. The main gyudon shops are:

MATSUYA

Our favorite since its soy sauce is by far much better than the others and for being the cheapest!

  • Menu: //www.matsuyafoods.co.jp/english/menu/
  • Tip: try the gyudon (¥ 290) with raw egg (+ 60 ¥). If you like kimchi here you can order it as an accompaniment (+ 80 ¥) or try the gyudon with kimchi (390 ¥).

SUKIYA

Our second favorite for having quite a variety of menu and good prices.

  • Menu: //www.sukiya.jp/menu/in/gyudon/100100/index.html
  • Tip: Gyudon passes (which in the Mastuya is better and cheaper)! Here they make a tuna surimi (350 ¥) that is not bad, as well as a bowl of rice with minced pork and egg (300 ¥).

YOSHINOYA

Yoshinoya has been a small disappointment since before we arrived we had been told wonders about him ... the truth is that we seemed to have less variety than the other gyudon shops and higher prices.

  • Menu: //www.yoshinoya.com/menu/don/index.html
  • Tip: the best dish we ate in Yoshinoya was a bowl of rice with meat with sesame seeds (¥ 490).

OYAKO-DON SHOP

Oyako-don is one of our favorite dishes from Japan: it is a bowl of rice with a breaded pork chop (katsudon), egg and onion.

NAKAU

One of our favorites, and quite cheap!

  • Menu: //www.nakau.co.jp/jp/menu/index.html
  • Tip: here the star dish is undoubtedly the oyako-don (350 ¥) although there are options to eat also katsudon (390 ¥) and soba (390 ¥).

They had SHOP

The tendon is simply delicious! It is a bowl of rice with varied tempura (it can be fish or vegetables).

HAVE

Discovering that we had this place next to the house was a real stroke of luck: the tendon here is delicious (besides the sweet soy sauce is the end of the world)

  • Menu: //www.tenya.co.jp/english/
  • Tip: the 500 ¥ tendon plate is the best option. Rice is accompanied by 5 different tempura: fish, squid, shrimp, squash and green beans.

CURRY

The Japanese curry was a surprise: before Vero told us what are the most typical dishes of Japan we had no idea that curry was also eaten here! Personally it did not drive us crazy but it is certainly one of the dishes to eat in Japan.

COCO HICIBANYA

It is the most famous curry place, you will find it almost everywhere.

  • Menu: //www.ichibanya.co.jp/english/info/pdf/maltilingual_menubook_1506.pdf
  • Tip: there are meat, fish and vegetable options. We try only meat so we can not advise you well.

RAMEN SHOP

Ramen is one of the most loved dishes by the Japanese: it is a soup prepared with dashi broth, meat and vegetables very tasty.

IDAKAYA

The dishes are good and plentiful!

  • Menu: //hidakaya.hiday.co.jp/menupage/
  • Tip: there is a menu with ramen and fried rice that costs about ¥ 630 which is very good. We with this and some gyozas (210 ¥) ate between the two!

ITALIAN FOOD

Afraid give us Italian restaurants in Asia, especially if we talk about chain, but sometimes a plate of pasta is so necessary that we decided to take the risk ... and it didn't go bad!

SAIZERIYA

If you are determined to try it, do not miss the opportunity, the prices are very good and there are not too many places.

  • Menu: //www.saizeriya.co.jp/menu/v4_20150422/
  • Tip: the pizza (¥ 399) is not very good ... but the pastas (¥ 399-499) are not bad! Another dish that we advise you to try are the doria, pasta or rice casseroles with seafood and bechamel gratin (299-499 ¥).

HAMBURGUER

The only hamburger we ate in Japan was at a McDonald's waiting for a bus, so we can't give you first hand information about the best burgers in Japan. We hear different criticisms of Mos Burguer (some say they are very rich, others say no and that the price is quite high for what it is ...), the same happened to Lotteria and First Kitchen. So we just leave you the menus!

BENTO-SHOP

Bentos are one of the cheapest (and rich) options to eat in Japan! We in Tokyo went to a little store that sold bentos (¥ 250-350) and other dishes such as takoyaki (¥ 150), chicken pieces, dumplingsā€¦

Where? Right in front of Don Quixote of Asakusa (2 Chome-10 Asakusa, Taito, Tokyo 111-0032, Japan)

... and the KAITEN SUSHI

The Kaiten Sushi deserve a special mention ... in the next few days we will tell you which are the best (and cheapest!).
