HOW TO GO TO VENICE FROM FLORENCE? (OR VICE VERSA)

If on your trip to Italy you have decided to base in Florence, the most beautiful Tuscan city of all, you can make daily excursions to know other areas of that part of Italy, among which we highlight that of Venice. There are two train companies that operate in Italy: Trenitalia and Italotreno. We recommend you take a look at both pages and see if there are you can benefit from any offer. For which, it is best to book the ticket well in advance.

If you want to go to Venice and return the same day, it's your turn to get up early. With Trenitalia the ideal is to take the Frecciargento from 07.15 arriving in Venice at 09.20. This way you will have all day to explore Venice thoroughly. Anyway, if you do not want to get up early, know that every hour there are trains. It takes approximately 2 hours and the price is between € 32 and € 37 (special rates aside).

Tip: we do not recommend taking regional trains as they make many stops and waste precious time, better Frecciarossa or Frecciargento, even if they are more expensive.

With Italotreno from Florence to Venice (or vice versa) they cost between € 20 and € 35 each way and take the same (just over 2 hours). There are several throughout the day, although we recommend you take the one at 07:54 that arrives in Venice at 10:00, and return at the one at 19:00 that arrives in Florence at 21:09. In this case, if you take the same day round trip, you can benefit from a special rate.

Both options are good, they are trains in good condition, fast and in theory punctual. So let yourself be convinced by the price difference 😉

Write down this name: Flixbus. It is a bus company that operates throughout Europe and puts on sale very cheap tickets (provided you get a good offer). In the case of Florence-Venice it is not complicated to find offers for about € 10 (or even less). We did a travel simulation looking for tickets one month in advance, and there was a disparity in prices (from € 8.99 to € 15.99).

The buses, of course, take 4 hours to arrive (instead of 2 of the train), so either early as a champion, or it would be nothing interesting to visit Venice in one day.

This way of going from Florence to Venice is not one of our favorites, but we understand that it can give confidence to some travelers who need some help for the reservation of transport. What is usually offered is the round-trip high-speed train ticket, the 1-day transport voucher in Venice (vaporettos included) and assistance in Florence before leaving. As a last option, you can rent a car and drive the 260 km that separate Venice from Florence in about 3 hours. We don't really think it's the best option (we're fans of the train option, we're not going to deny it). Yes, we find it interesting to rent a car but only if it is for several days and to make a more extensive route ... The best thing is that if you travel as a couple or in a group, the cost is distributed and leaves cheaper. But keep an eye on the highways in Italy, because tolls are quite expensive! Also finding parking in Venice is not easy.
