300 days of sunshine a year, an enviable cultural offer, rich (and cheap) food ... We talk about Malaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol and one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in Spain. We visited the Andalusian city with a partner, with parents, with friends and even for work, and always, always, always had a great time. In this post we tell you 20 things to see and do in Malaga.

1. The first thing we recommend you do is sign up for afree tour, which will take you to discover the historic center of Malaga and its most emblematic buildings. Remember that it is free but it is always good to leave a tip! You can book it here.

2. Upload walking to the Alcazaba. This palace complex was built in the eleventh century in the place where a Phoenician fortification was located. Ok, it's not the Alhambra in Granada, but believe us: it is well worth a visit. Inside you will find courtyards, gardens, palaces and rooms that will transport you to another era. Admission is € 2.20 peeeero ...

3. If you also want to visit the Gibralfaro Castle (and yes, you want) there is a combined ticket for € 3.55. What is it about? This castle was built in order to defend the Alcazaba from possible enemy attacks. Today from its Tower of Homage there are incredible views of Malaga and from here you get what is probably the best sunset in the city.

4. And after a magnificent sunset that can be done? Take a little wine and something to snack on before dinner, of course. A great (and legendary) place to do it is The Pimpi. We recommend your Malaga Virgin sweet wine (€ 2.06 a glass), a portion of a cazón to share (€ 11) or a ligerito piripi, a mini-sandwich with pork tenderloin, natural tomato, bacon, cheese and aioli. Here you have a list with 7 restaurants to eat in Malaga (good and cheap).

5. Take a tour of the Larios Street, one of the main commercial arteries of Malaga, and don't be afraid to get lost in its crossbars. It is an area that is always lively, with small fashion boutiques, other businesses and bars.

6. If you only spend one day in Malaga you have to go to the beach to eat a sardine spit. What is the best site? There are many restaurants and beach bars that prepare it, but we recommend you go to the neighborhood of El Palo, east of Malaga, where you can find them for even € 2 a plate. A restaurant with a lot of fame is The Inkwell

7. In Malaga, one of the greatest artists in modern history was born: Pablo Picasso. And in his hometown he could not miss a Museum dedicated to this revolutionary of art. The ticket costs € 8 and, although it does not have its most famous works, it allows you to make a journey from your childhood to adulthood very, very interesting.

8. Approach until Merced Square, one of the most beautiful in Malaga and where the statue of Pablo Picasso is located.

9. Walk through thePier One, an outdoor mall that has been transformed into the city's fashionable area. There are shops, restaurants, cultural events and beautiful views of the harbor.

10. Yes, in August it is very hot, but there is a great reason to get here: Malaga's carnival. Have you ever lived the Malaga fair? We are not, but we are crazy to go and get to Cartojal's eyebrows, the sweet wine that is taken here (thanks Angels for the entry). More info. Another important date to visit Malaga is in Easter week.

Tired? Then cheer up! that you still have 10 things to see and do in Malaga 🙂

Walk through the Port of Malaga

11. Another essential visit in Malaga is that of your Cathedral, the Holy Cathedral Church Basilica of the Incarnation, which combines different architectural styles (Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque). The entrance costs € 6 but if you prefer a guided tour you can opt for this one that costs € 10 and includes the entrance, of course. Curiosity: Malaga people call their Cathedral "La Manquita" because it is unfinished (the south tower is missing).

12. To have a beautiful view of the cathedral Go up to the terrace of AC Málaga Palacio (I used to stay here on work trips) and it is very cool, it has even a pool with views! The entrance with a consummation costs € 10 but the views are priceless.

13 Did you know that Malaga is one of the cities with more museums in Spain? And if you love art here you will have a few busy hours: the must-see stops are the Pompidou Center, the Carmen Tyssen Museum and the Malaga Contemporary Center.

14. After kicking the city and its museums you will be busted, so there is nothing better than taking a few hours of relaxation in the Hammam al Andalus, some beautiful suuuper Arab baths. Here you have more info and reservations.

15. Walk through the stalls of theCentral Market of Atarazanas, a classic of Malaga.

16. If you like quiet places and you want to surround yourself with green, the Botanical Garden The conception It is an oasis of peace. It was opened in 1855 and later expanded, and you will find many tropical species. Admission is € 5.20.

17. Give yourself a beach bath, there are many of course! But we like it the malagueta, quite central and with its emblematic poster. If you have several days and want to change, you can approach the beaches of La Caleta and to that of Pedregalejo.

18. Do you know that in Malaga there is a Roman theatre? It was discovered in the 50s (“nothing” ago) and is located under the Alcazaba, in the center. It is a pretty amazing visit!

19. Do you have more time and have you done too much what you had to see and do in Malaga? Consider renting a car and making a excursion through some of its prettiest villages like Nerja, Frigiliana, Round or Antequera. And, why not, to other Andalusian capitals like Granada, Cordoba or Seville.

20. Another option is to go to fear the famous Caminito del Rey, a walk of catwalks of about 3 km hung on the Gorge of the Gaitanes. You're going to get scared: the catwalks are nailed to the canyon walls and you'll literally be with an abyss under your feet. There are areas where you will be 105 meters high! Very heavy! More info and reservations.
