This guide on how to get from Budapest airport to downtown It will help you to find the cheapest and fastest option to reach your accommodation, optimizing the time to the maximum.

The Budapest-Ferenc Liszt International Airport, located 16 kilometers southeast of the city, has a good connection to the center by public and private transport, so you will not waste much time during the transfer. In addition the two terminals of the airport are very close and connected to each other.

Based on the experience of the time we spent in the city during our trip to Budapest in 4 days, we explain the different options to do the transfer from Budapest airport to downtown. We start!

Bus

The most common way to get to the center of Budapest is to take the 100E bus from any of the two terminals that takes 40 minutes to complete the journey.
Before getting on the bus you need to buy the Airport Shuttle Ticket, which costs about 3 euros in one of the kiosks of the public transport company BKK or in the self-sale machines.
These buses that leave every 20 minutes from 05h in the morning to 0: 30h at night, have the final stop at Deák Ferenc Tér, located in the heart of Budapest. From this stop you can connect with the metro lines M1, M2 and M3 that will bring you closer to the area of the city where you have reserved the accommodation.
An even cheaper alternative is the 200E bus which takes you in 20 minutes and for one euro to the metro station of the M3 line, Kobanya-Kispest. From this station you can arrive by subway for one euro to the center in 20 minutes and connect with the other subway lines.
If you value comfort and don't mind taking a little longer, we recommend the service of miniBUD bus which makes the transfer from Budapest airport to the center for about 8 euros. These minibuses will leave you in front of the door of your hotel, although they have the inconvenience that they do not leave until they are full and they have to stop at each of the hotels of the 10 passengers that they can take at most.

Another good recommendation, if you are going to be in the city for many days, is to book a hotel in the center, located not far from the Deák Ferenc Tér stop, so as not to waste much time on transfers. We stayed at the Maverick Hostel, located 700 meters from Deák Ferenc Tér and 1 minute from the Ferenciek Tere metro station on the M3 line. In addition to its magnificent location, this hostel has one of the best quality / price ratios in the city.

Budapest

Private transportation, a good option to go from Budapest airport to downtown

The easiest and fastest option for the transfer from Budapest airport to the center is to book this private transfer. In this service, a driver will wait for you at the exit of the terminal with a cartel with your name and will take you directly to your hotel in half an hour, depending on traffic.
The price in a 4-seater tourism is 28 euros, in one of 8 places it is 40 euros and in one of 15 places it is 80 euros. As you can see if you are more than 3 people it will be cheaper than the miniBUD bus service, so it is a highly recommended option.
In addition, private transport is also the best alternative if you do not want to change euros to Hungarian florins at the airport, by paying this service in advance through the reservation page.

In case you want to get money at the airport, we recommend avoiding exchange offices and taking out the cashier directly using a card such as Bnext or Revolut, with which you will return all commissions and the N26 to pay, since being Mastercard , never fails and offers you the best change.
You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without paying commissions.

Transfer from Budapest airport to downtown

Cab

Although we did not have a very good experience with the Volantaxi taxi agency, the time we used it, the taxi is another convenient way to get to the hotel.
When leaving the terminal you have to ignore the taxi offers and go directly to the official taxi rank. The price of the transfer from Budapest airport to the center is around 23 euros.
