When we visited Croatia on our trip to the Balkans, we were very surprised with the Istrian region, unknown to many but absolutely surprising. And we were so delighted that this year we decided to repeat ... and we went with the Letys (this is how Lety's daddies are known) on vacation to Pula.

Soon we will talk about this Croatian city, but today the thing is about dip and sunscreen: we are going to tell you which are the best beaches in Istria.

But first let us clarify some things:

  • "Uvala" It is the Croatian word to say beach.
  • The vast majority of Beaches in this area are rocky, so we recommend using booties and buy some mats (from 50Kunas, more or less € 7) to lie down without destroying your booty.
  • It is almost essential to have rental car: public transport is not the best and also does not reach the most attractive beaches. We usually rent cars on this website.
  • Water It is usually very beautiful, crystalline and turquoise that invites you to a good dip, but it's something cool... it is best to throw yourself in a bomb plan!
  • The snorkeling It is not for the best in the world, but there is incredible visibility that will allow you to see the odd little fish. Of course, do not forget your glasses because the sea of Istria is saladete.
  • We stayed in a apartment in Pula booked with Airbnb, where we made base to explore the beaches. If this is your idea you can get € 30 for your reservation through this link.

Now yes, here they go The best beaches of Istria:

The Premantura peninsula (just over 10 km from Pula) is the perfect destination for a day at the beach, as it has different attractive beaches. It is the case of:

| Uvala Pinižule

Our favorite: transparent waters and a simply spectacular landscape. There is parking from which you can access the beach in 5 minutes ... or less.

| Uvala Polije

It is a beautiful beach although the concrete pier that divides the beach takes away a lot of charm. The snorkeling was more or less good (we saw starfish!).

| Uvala Njive

Beautiful, with transparent waters and the best snorkeling in Kamenjak (according to our experience). The beach was crowded when we went, so we took a path to the left and stayed on the rocks. Highly recommended.

| Portic grape

It is located in the eastern part of the Premantura peninsula. The beach itself is not bad (especially for children and people looking for some peace), but we certainly prefer the beaches of the west.

| Safari bar area (Cliff jump)

It is the furthest from the entire peninsula and is ideal for those who want to enjoy amazing jumps ... people come here to jump into the water from the cliffs of the cape. It is usually full of travelers as it is one of the most visited points of the peninsula. There is also a very good snorkel. At the top is the Safari Bar, with lots of atmosphere.

Useful info Kamenjak Natural Park.

You have to pay 80 kn for each car that enters the Kamenjak Natural Park. There is the possibility of buying some packs that allow entry on different days (3 days pass for 180 kn, or weekly pass for 420 kn). You can buy the ticket at the booth that is before entering the park (announced before arriving), for which you will have to park in a first parking lot and queue, or go directly to the park entrance, in the Security controls also sell tickets. More info and prices: here.

It was the beach we liked most in Istria. We arrived here on the recommendation of our airbnb host. You have to leave the car in the parking lot of the Stoja beach and from here follow a path always next to the coast that in about 15-20 minutes will leave us on the beach. We recommend you continue towards the area of rocks, there you will be halfway between the beach and a very beautiful sea cave. Transparent and calm waters (with quite shady areas). We went twice 🙂

If you travel with children you can stay in the Stoja beach, it is not the prettiest but it is very easy to access it ... and it is a very familiar beach.

Also in this case we arrived here thanks to the recommendation of our airbnb host. Follow the instructions to Zlatne Stijene (or the Horizont Hotel). Once the car is parked in the parking lot, you must pass the fence of the resort and go down between the bungalows. The beach to which we refer is not lost: it has amazing colors! Keep walking along the shore until you find it (7-10 min) and if you don't ask for the hotel restaurant since it is just below (already, this horrible building ruins the landscape in an unseemly way but still worth it getting closer). It is our second favorite beach in Istria.

A very nice beach but full of people, at least when we went. If you want to come here we advise you to do it first thing in the morning. There is free parking about 5-7 min from the beach. You can rent sun loungers (25Kunas per day, about € 3.5).

We did not visit them but we have been told that the area of Rabac it's prettyGirandella beach for example) and also the area of Mošćenička Draga. Strolling through Rovinj We saw that the city beach is cool. It is next to the Puntilina restaurant, where by the way there are WOW views and, again our airbnb host (thanks Manuela!) Told us that he eats very well (although it is not very low cost). If you stay in Pula and do not have a car you can go to the nearby Uvala Gortanova.

So far our recommendation, if you know other beautiful beaches of Istria leave us a comment 🙂
