Humayun's Tomb, a World Heritage Site and source of inspiration for the construction of the Taj Mahal, is our favorite place what to visit in New Delhi.
This great example of Mughal architecture is considered the first garden tomb and was the place chosen for the eternal rest of Emperor Humayun. In addition to the emperor's tomb, in this complex you can find other smaller tombs such as the barber's and Isa Khan's, mosques and other constructions, forming a space that conveys harmony and peace.
Near this tomb is the Lodhi Gardens, one of the few green lungs in the city and with several interesting tombs, which you can also visit.

Our recommended hotel in Delhi

We stayed at the Hotel Godwin Deluxe, located 10 minutes walk from the Main Bazaar, an area full of local shops and restaurants for dinner. In addition to its location, the hotel has an airport pick-up service, 24-hour reception, buffet breakfast and one of the best quality / price ratios in the city.

4. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, the city's main Sikh temple, is another of the places to see in New Delhi more authentic and leave more mark.
This temple built in marble, which highlights a golden dome and a sacred pool, allows you to get to know and get a little closer to the customs of the Sikh practitioners. This religion, which emerged in India in 1500 during the conflict between Hinduism and Islam, is the ninth with the most believers in the world.
Upon entering the temple for free, always complying with the rules of dress and respect, you will find a large room where you can sit on the floor to listen to the chanting prayers that sing several Sikhs and immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere.

5. Main Bazaar, one of the places to see in New Delhi

Walking along Main Bazaar Street, located in the backpacking neighborhood of Paharganj, is another of the Top things to do in New Delhi.
This chaotic street where large numbers of people are mixed with rickshaws and tuk tuks, shops that sell all kinds of items, street stalls, cheap hostels and terraces to dine a good Indian or Western meal at a reasonable price, is one of the Favorite places for travelers traveling through India or Southeast Asia.
The narrowest streets of this neighborhood leave from this larger street where you can know the authentic essence of the city.
For us this street was the first contact with India to be close to our hotel and although the contrast with the west is striking, we believe it is a good place to start acclimatizing to this unique country.

This tower of more than 72 meters high that began to be built in 1193 and took more than 160 years to complete, was inspired by the Jam Minaret in Afghanistan.
Being a great example of Islamic art, the minaret has five floors designed differently and with verses from the Koran carved on the walls of red sandstone.
In addition to this tower, in the Qutb complex you can see the Quwwat mosque and the ruins of the first Islamic city built in Delhi.

7. Lotus Temple

The Lotus Temple or Bahai House of Worship, is a center of prayer and meditation and one of the most amazing places to see in Delhi.
This temple impresses from afar for its semi-open white lotus flower-shaped design with 27 marble petals and an interior with a huge room without any sculpture or decorative symbol. This austerity is due to the fact that Baha'is is based on 3 principles: the unity of God, the unity of humanity and the unity of religion, regardless of each other's beliefs.
For this reason access is allowed to everyone and you just have to take off your shoes and remain silent to meditate and achieve spiritual peace.

Remembering the Hindu referent Mahatma Gandhi in the Raj Ghat (Royal Courtyard), the place where he was cremated in January 1948, is one of the Top things to do in New Delhi.
This austere mauseol formed by a slab of black marble and an eternal flame, reflects the spirit of this historical leader who led the nonviolent civil disobedience against the occupation of the British Crown, until achieving independence from India.
As a curiosity in the mausoleum you can read "Hey Ram" (Oh Lord), the last words he uttered before he was murdered.

If you end up finding the charm of organized chaos, intense smells, traffic jams and the noise of this neighborhood, you may be convinced that you will enjoy a more authentic trip through India.

Not far from the Main Bazaar, there is a more western area that revolves around Connaught Square, built during the British occupation.
