Following this guide on what to do in Segovia in one day You will know all the points of interest of this medieval city, making the most of time.
Having only 24 hours to visit a city that has wonders such as the Aqueduct, the Alcazar or the Cathedral, may seem like a short time, but we believe that if you optimize the itinerary on foot through the old town, it is more than enough to take a first impression of the most tourist places in the city.

We recommend arriving soon in this city located less than half an hour by AVE from Madrid, to avoid organized groups that fill the historic center and the main tourist attractions from 10 in the morning.
Another good option to enjoy the city in a more relaxed way is to spend the night in it and explore the main monuments with few people at sunset.

Based on the experience of our visit, in the last one we wrote this list of places to visit in Segovia, we have made this route to get to know the best of Segovia in one day. We start!

How to get to Segovia

The most common way to get to Segovia is from Madrid on the high-speed AVANT train, which leaves from Chamartín station.
This train will take you to the Segovia Guiomar station in half an hour for 14 euros and from there you have to take bus line 11 that will leave you in front of the aqueduct in 15 minutes.
If you prefer to save about 10 euros you can take an AVANZA bus at the Moncloa Exchanger in Madrid that costs 4 euros and will leave you an hour and a half near the Aqueduct.
Another more comfortable option is to book one of these day trips from Madrid with a guide in Spanish:

A good area to stay and that is well connected with the bus and train stations, is around the Plaza de Zocodover and the Roman Aqueduct.

Segovia in one day

The route of what to do in Segovia in one day It starts early in the morning in the Plaza de Oriente, located in front of the Aqueduct.
After taking the first photos of one of the great jewels to see in Spain, you can climb the Cuesta de San Juan to have more panoramic views of the upper part of the aqueduct, by the stairs of the Plaza del Azoguejo.

Aqueduct of Segovia

From this square you can continue the visit up the Juan Bravo shopping street, always looking back to keep track of the aqueduct, until you reach the Mirador de Canaleja, a small terrace from which you will have magnificent views of a part of the city and the mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama, which form in the distance a silhouette of a woman lying down (or so they say).
When you return to Juan Bravo street you will pass by the Casa de los Picos, with a beautiful Renaissance courtyard, before arriving at La Alhóndiga, an old grain warehouse from the 16th century.
After seeing the exterior of this industrial Gothic style building, you can head towards Plaza Medina del Campo, our favorite in Segovia.

Medina del Campo Square

Here you can see a statue of Juan Bravo, 16th-century Renaissance mansions, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Torreón de Lozoya and, above all, the beautiful Romanesque church of San Martín.
Following Juan Bravo Street you will arrive at the Old Jewish Quarter, another of the mandatory stops of Segovia in one day.
In this 12th-century Jewish neighborhood you can enter the Old Main Synagogue, now the Corpus Christi church, and walk the street of the Old Jewish Quarter until you reach the San Andres Gate.
A good way to learn more about the history of the Jewish quarter is to book this guided tour in Spanish.

Jewish Quarter

From this door, the best preserved of those that gave access to the old walled city, you can climb to the top of the wall and travel a piece enjoying the views of the city and the Alcazar.
When you get off the wall you can continue with the itinerary arriving through the Desamparados Street to the Museum House of the poet Antonio Machado, an old pension in which he lived more than 13 years in a room that remains exactly as he left it. A good option to follow the track left by the poet in the city is to book this tour of Machado.
At the end of the visit you can return to the center until you reach the beautiful Plaza Mayor to enter the elegant Segovia Cathedral.

Cathedral

This huge church, the third in Spain in size, stands out for its almost 90 meters high tower and its interior full of stained glass, tapestries and beautiful chapels.
Once the visit is complete we recommend you to leave the Plaza Mayor on the street of Infanta Isabel that will take you to the restaurants Bar El Sitio or in Lazaro, highly recommended to try the roasted suckling pig at a good price and located among the best restaurants to eat in Segovia.
To download this copious meal, you can walk to El Alcazar, the most visited monument in the city along the Aqueduct.

The Achazar

In this fairytale castle, crowned by a fantastic tribute tower, you can tour the different palatial halls. When buying the ticket do not forget to include the climb to the Tower of Juan II, from where you will have excellent views of the city and part of the Alcazar.
An interesting way to learn about the history of the Alcazar, the Cathedral and the city is to book this guided tour in Spanish that includes tickets. Another option if you do not want the guided tour of the cathedral is to book this tour that includes only the city and the Alcazar.

The itinerary of Segovia in one day Continue down the stairs to the bank of the Eresma River and walk about 10 minutes to reach the Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos, the best viewpoint of the Alcazar.

San Marcos Meadow Viewpoint

Once all the photos have been taken to the Alcazar, you can approach the beautiful Church of Vera Cruz, inspired by the Holy Sepulcher and the Mosque of the Rock of Jerusalem.
To return to the Aqueduct area or downtown you can take a bus at a stop located on San Marcos Street or walk in half an hour.

If you are going to spend the night in the city you can complete the visit to this World Heritage City with a quiet walk through the historic center, seeing the different illuminated monuments and have dinner at the recommended Jose Maria Restaurant.
The next morning we advise you to get up early to enjoy one of the experiences best valued by travelers visiting Segovia, this balloon ride at dawn.
