Roman temple of Evora in Alentejo in Portugal

Do you like places with history, those pretty villages With great fortifications and castles on top of a hill?

In my last travel through the Alentejo region, in Portugal, I have been able to discover places with great charm and a very long history in places like the Roman temple of Evora, but above all they have had great prominence in medieval times.

On that trip through the interior of the Alentejo I have visited Evora, the capital of this region whose tourist motto today is «where is there time«.

And also Elvas, the declared city World Heritage for its 17th-century Dutch-style fortifications.

Or villages with great beauty and charm, as they are Marvao or Castelo de Vide, bordering on the Spanish border of Estremadura.

Or corners with history, like Evoramonte, Alter do Chao or Buds. Or the nature sites of Gameiro ecological park.

All this in a car trip where I have been able to see vineyard landscapes, a reflection of a destination that has a great strength of the wine tourism. And also with forests of cork oaks and holm oaks.

Alentejo It is also a destination that has in its rich and varied gastronomy an argument to visit it, and where you will find modern cozy hotel establishments, another surprise of the trip through this Portuguese region.
