I'll tell you first Begur It is located in one of the most beautiful and charming surroundings of the Costa Brava, within the region of Under Empordà.

Very close to the charming town of Calella de Palafrugell and the round road that unites him with Llafranc, as well as gothic town of Pals.

The visit was actually a first approach, a first contact with Begur framed in a route through the area, with the purpose of returning more calmly in the future.

From the center of Begur you have less than ten kilometers beaches in coves which you arrive on winding roads, such as Sa Tuna or Sa Riera.

It's not about the small isolated coves between cliffs that you find near Tossa de Mar, but as in the case of Sa Riera, sIt is a small urban enclave on the shore of a beach.

Surrounded by low houses, most of them holiday homes, this Sa Riera beach It shows the typical image of the boats on the sand.

With a long history dating back to prehistory, and with a great boom in medieval times, what will most catch your attention in that historic center are the watchtowers They are still preserved.

Climb the medieval castle of Begur

Our visit of Begur we focus on the climb to the remains of his medieval castle, that although it can also be done by car, we did it walking from the center.

Through the narrow streets of ascent to the castle you can see beautiful corners with stone houses, but also with facades painted with striking colors.

You will also pass by one of the aforementioned defensive towers.

The origins of the castle date back to the 11th century, being documented that its owner was Arnust de Begur.

Later, in 1605 the castle became the property of the municipality of Begur, although during the Napoleonic wars it was practically destroyed.

Located in a spectacular location, now there are hardly any remains of the wall and a tower from which you have beautiful views of the town itself Begur and of the landscapes that surround it.

In sum, a first contact and an invitation to return to Begur to enjoy its attractions more calmly, such as the nearby Romanesque town of Esclanyá.

I know it will be worth it!
