Rupit in the province of Barcelona

If there is a place that really surprised us during our recent trip through the interior of the province of Barcelona, that is Rupit.

In fact, beyond the charm of this Catalonia town with an unusual location on the slopes of a cliff that falls over a winding valley, and just to enjoy the landscapes you find on the route to Rupit Worth a break.

We are going to situate ourselves: I am referring to the natural area known as Collsacabra, in the region of Osona, north of the province inland, and adjacent to the Garrotxa, already in the province of Girona.

Where is Rupit

In this natural region that extends next to the Vic plain, you find highlands with huge rocky cliffs that fall towards the valleys and the Sau reservoir, and where are other interesting villages, such as Tavertet.

To visit it you have the option to sign up for a Rupit excursion from Barcelona which also includes the visit of the historic Vic, tour in which in addition to the bus transfer, you will make guided tours of both locations.

Whether you go on your own or in a group, you will see that Rupit is among landscapes with lush beech, oak, oak, birch and fir forests crossed by the winding road from where you have very beautiful panoramic views.

Rupit It is a town of medieval origin, although the stone houses that give it so much charm are from the 16th and 17th centuries.

As you descend the road to Rupit, you will see that you are heading towards the small river that surrounds it, always surrounded by a lush forest.

What to see and do in Rupit

Upon arrival you will realize that it is a fairly tourist town, because at the entrance you will find the prohibition sign to access a car by car.

On the other hand you have at your disposal a great paid parking (from 2 to 24 hours, 3 euros) that in bridges and high season you can imagine with several buses.

In this car park you will find a tourist information booth with a map of the town you are going to visit.

A prominent place is the large rock that stands on the street and some of its houses, where the remains of the small are located castle which was built around the year 1000, and where previously there should have been a fortification of the Visigoths.

It is precisely from this rock castle where the first houses that gave rise to the Rupit town.

Although it is possible that you get tired with the steep slope of the ascent, I anticipate that it is worth climbing to the highest part, because from there it is where you can best appreciate the beauty of the natural place where it sits Rupit.
